At the 18th NISPAcee Annual Conference in Warsaw, on the topic “Public Administration in Times of Crisis”, the Department of Public Administration was well represented. Head of Department Professor Rainer Kattel chaired, together with Guy Peters from Pittsburgh, the Thematic Session, and they will serve as co-editors of the proceedings. Professor Wolfgang Drechsler delivered the keynote address of the conference in Warsaw’s Royal Palace; he also presented papers on “The Insolvent Municipality: Lessons from Germany” (with recent DPA PhD Thomas Duve) and on “Can one, should one accredit PhD Programs in Public Administration in Central and Eastern Europe?” He also received the NISPAcee Merit Award during the closing session of the conference. After two full terms (six years) of service, he retired from the NISPAcee Steering Committee, but the DPA will continue to be represented there, as Dr. Ringa Raudla was unanimously elected to this body.
