Jakob Kübarsepp, TUT Professor of Metals Engineering and Margus Lopp, TUT Professor of Organic Chemistry were elected Members of Academy by the General Assembly of the Estonian Academy of Sciences.

Jakob Kübarsepp was elected a Member of Academy in the field of materials engineering. Kübarsepp's fields of research include powder metallurgy and particularly wear resistant metal and ceramic composites as well as wear of materials. He has two Doctor's degrees: the degree defended in 1980 in the Moscow University of Fine-Chemical Technology and the second defended in 1992 in the Tallinn University of Technology. Today Kübarsepp supervises two doctoral students, a total of five doctoral degrees and nine research master's degrees have been defended under his supervision. Jakob Kübarsepp has published more than 200 research articles and he has eight author's certificates (inventions).

During 2000–2011 Jakob Kübarsepp held the post of the Vice-Rector of Academic Affairs of TUT, before that he worked as the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (1994–2000). Jakob Kübarsepp has been awarded the Estonian National Science Prize twice, in 1985 and 2005. 

Margus Lopp, TUT Professor of Organic Chemistry, was elected a Member of Academy in chemistry. Lopp's fields of research include new chemical reactions, asymmetric chemical synthesis and catalysis and synthesis of bioactive and natural compounds. He defended his Ph.D. degree in the Institute of Chemistry of the Estonian Academy of Sciences in 1980. Lopp has supervised 11 doctoral theses and six master's theses; today he supervises three doctoral students. Margus Lopp has published more than 200 research articles and he has four patents. During 2004–2009 Lopp held the post of the Dean of the Faculty of Science of TUT, in 1997–2004 he worked as the Director of the Institute of Chemistry of TUT. Lopp was awarded the Estonian National Science Prize in 1987 and 2004.

New Members of Academy were also elected in exact sciences, medical science, biosystematics and ecology, linguistics and music.
