The Tallinn University of Technology (TUT) will celebrate its 100th birthday in 2018. By that time our university should become a Nordic Entrepreneurial Research University.
We can ensure our success only when we develop our university based on the example of an entrepreneurial business model. This strategy has been chosen by all top research universities worldwide. Similarly to our role models, we are driven by internationalisation and innovation. Our new aim combines internationalisation and innovation, because only this approach will generate new enterprises that will work with our university in order to create new value and ensure economic growth!
In this regard our centre has an ambitious role to play: to be the leader of these processes!
Thus, iTUT or innovative and international Tallinn University of Technology.
We currently provide the following services:
• Sales of the TUT research and development
The objective of the R&D sales is to enhance the cooperation between the university and companies in order to develop high value-added products and services. Our centre’s role is to find shared features between the university and companies and provide the services of researchers to companies.
• Commercialisation of intellectual property
The objective of commercialisation is to accelerate the adoption of innovative solutions. This service consists of finding new customers and coordinating negotiations. Supporting activities include the protection and management of intellectual property and preparation of contracts.
• Protection and management of intellectual property
A successful commercialisation process requires professional protection, knowledge and management of the intellectual property. In this regard the university works closely with the top experts in their fields.
• Spin-offs / Startup Garage
Support services for start-ups are necessary for the creation of new technology-intensive enterprises related to TUT. This service includes assessment of business potential, team building, resource acquisition and protection of the university’s interests.
We launched an interdisciplinary innovation platform - MeKTory
Our common goal is to increase the volume of contracts between the university and companies and create new technology-based spin-offs based on scalable business models.
We are working closely with solid cooperation partners, such as the Tallinn Technology Park Tehnopol and University of Tartu, in the process of implementing these goals.
In short, the activities of the Centre should create more value for professors, students, companies and the state. We have to promote the TUT ecosystem, be open, sustainable, interdisciplinary and international.
Looking forward to mutually beneficial cooperation,
Tea Varrak
