In order to commence with doctoral studies, the applicant shall have a master´s degree or a comparable education. All applicants must have a good command of English.
Tuition fee is waived for all PhD students.
Since academic year 2016/2017, the principles of admission to doctoral studies are changed.
Admission to doctoral studies takes place by way of a competition. A competition is announced based on the topics of doctoral theses approved by the Vice-Rector for Research on the proposal of the admission committee for doctoral studies.
At latest by April 15 the notices of the competitions by topics, including the names of the supervisors are published on the doctoral studies website of the university and in the web environment for applying for doctoral studies: DreamApply, Estonian Admissions Information System (hereinafter SAIS).
One competition is announced for one doctoral thesis topic.
An applicant may apply for one or several competitions.
An applicant can submit an application for admission electronically via the online admission system at the following website: www.estonia.dreamapply.com or SAIS.
The documents required for application are the following:
1) an application (on-line)
2) a curriculum vitae incl. data on education as well as research and development activities;
3) an original and a copy of an education certificate and the diploma supplement;
In case an education certificate acquired in a foreign country, TUT has the right to request an assessment and recommendation from the Estonian ENIC/NARIC Centre or submit the relevant information request to verify the data
4) a copy of the passport, an identity card or a residence permit card;
5) a motivation letter in English.
A decision on admission of a person is based on the rankings drawn up for each competition.
The ranking drawn up takes into account the applicant's academic skills, performance and motivation in accordance with the documents submitted for the competition and an interview made with the applicant and the supervisor's opinion.
