International Summer University in Rural and Heritage Tourism 2015
WELCOME TO THE SUMMER UNIVERSITY
Rural and sustainable tourism, including tourism to protected areas and heritage tourism has a relatively short history in Eastern Europe, compared to West European and Nordic countries. However, many of these countries, including Estonia, offer unique untouched nature, national parks and nature reserves as well as traditional rural lifestyles and cultural heritage attractive to tourists.
The international summer short-course coupling faculty and students from different countries is based on experiences gained through prior international projects of Tallinn University of Technology Kuressaare College in collaboration with Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences (UAS), Latvia; Lapland UAS, Finland; Klaipeda State College, Lithuania; NHTV Breda, Netherlands; Blaise Pascal University Clermont-Ferrand, France, Colorado State University, USA, and others.
The theme of the summer course involves a variety of disciplines, integrating topics such as sustainable tourism, visitor management, heritage interpretation, product innovations, creativity and networking in rural tourism, event management, experiencing local culinary heritage, etc.
The aim of the course is to provide an overview and understanding of the principles and guidelines necessary for developing tourism experiences appropriate for the locality of place. Excursions to local heritage attractions and tourism providers and suppliers will help to understand how the local tourist supply chain functions and to perceive the multi-facets and complexity of rural and cultural heritage tourism provision.
All student participants will be awarded 6 ECTS and a Certificate issued by Tallinn University of Technology.
