ProLab's participation at Purple Nectar 2016
On November 9th, Prolab team together with its partners from Sweden and Netherlands presented IN4STARS project results at Dutch military exhibition “Purple Nectar”. “Purple Nectar” is an experiments- and demonstration environment, organized by the Dutch military, with the objective to show decision makers and end users the possibilities. Prolab’s contribution to the IN4STARS project involved a middleware solution (ProWare) for Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) and the WSN itself.

The WSN presented by Prolab team at “Purple Nectar” consisted of a Wireless Sensor Network composed of 8 sensor nodes, 2 fusion nodes, 1 relay node a single gateway which also acts as a subscription server and a pan-tilt camera.
The first of the fusion nodes uses angles to the noise source produced by distributed microphone arrays for input and computes a position of the noise source. The microphone arrays are also capable of classification of the noise source, so in case the object detected is classified, the information is also aggregated with the fusion result.

The second fusion node uses inputs from motion detector, magnetic sensor and moving objects counter and estimates whether a vehicle or human was detected and the number of the objects detected.

In addition to the sensors, the the pan-tilt camera included to the network was able to respond to subscriptions from both the fusion nodes inside the local network and from external users in order to produce images from subscribed locations. During the Purple Nectar the area next to the area covered by sensor network was covered by THALES SQUIRE radar, which upon detection of contacts, subscribed to the images from pan-tilt camera.
What makes our WSN different is the middleware solution ProWare. ProWare is a service based middleware for creating situation information from heterogeneous wireless sensor networks and is described in several of our publications.
