R&D ACTIVITIES OF TTÜ DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL AND INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING.
Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering is one of the biggest departments in Tallinn University of Technology (TTÜ). We are responsi- ble for two bachelorʼs programmes: Integrated Engineering and Product Development and Robotics; five masterʼs programmes: Design and Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management, Logistics, Product Development and Production Engineering and Vocational Teacher; and one doctoral study programme: Mechanical Engineering.
The Department consists of four research centres: Research Centre of Smart Industry and Robotics, Research Centre of Innovative Industrial Materials, Research Centre of Logistics and Transportation, Estonian Centre of Engineering Pedagogy and one service Laboratory of Mechanical Testing and Metrology.
On the one hand, we are active in industry digitalization and Industry 4.0 topics (established Digital Innovation Hub – SmartIC and Flexible Manufacturing Systems and Robotics Demo-centre for supporting Industry 4.0 concept for Estonian SME’s) and, on the other hand, product and smart materials development; additive manufacturing and cyber physical production system development projects. We are participating as a lead partner in differ- ent EU and national projects funded from institutional and personal research grants, also in different international research projects with enterprises.
The Department works in close cooperation with different universities, research centres, enterprises and EU technology platforms (ManuFuture, EuMat, etc.). We are an active partner in EU associations (EFFRA and EuroVR) and different national associations (Estonian Academy of Sciences, Federation of Estonian Engineering Industry and Estonian Association of Mechanical Engineers).
We hope that this review will provide an outline of our main research and development areas and through that will contribute to better relationships and new research projects with companies, universities and research centres.
