New Fijian Honorary Consul to deepen ties between Fiji and Estonia
Vlad Alex Vernygora, an International Relations lecturer at the TTÜ Department of Law, has been issued an Exequatur from the Estonian MFA in confirmation of his appointment as Honorary Consul of the Republic of Fiji in Tallinn with jurisdiction throughout the whole territory of the Republic of Estonia.
On 13 March 2018, the Exequatur was handed over to Mr. Vernygora by Mr. Lauri Bambus, Director General of the MFA’s State Protocol Department. Mr. Mart Tarmak, Councellor of the Division of Asia, Africa, Australia and Latin America, was also present at the ceremony.
Vlad is one of the leading promoters of Asia-Pacific Studies in the Baltics and Nordics, and the Fijian Honorary Consulate in Estonia has become the first of its kind to be established by any of the smaller Pacific islands nations outside of the European west. Fiji, the home of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, is a nation of 900,000 people occupying 333 tropical islands in the South Pacific. In November 2017, the country was presiding over the 23rd Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which took place in Bonn.
