Jan 22, 1 PM in ICT-315 "Digital Transformation of the Taxi Industry: Towards MaaS?"
At Software Science Departmental seminar on Tuesday, Jan 22, 2019 at 01:00 PM Arto Lanamäki (University of Oulu, Finland) will talk about "Digital Transformation of the Taxi Industry: Towards MaaS?".
The seminar will take place in ICT-315.
This talk concerns the research Dr. Arto Lanamäki has conducted with his collaborators during the last couple of years. We have been interested in the digital transformation of the taxi industry in Finland. The Finnish taxi industry is currently ongoing major changes, as it was earlier regulated (price regulation, license regulation, and patrol area regulation). The deregulation reform, the Act on Transport Services, was enacted in July 2018. Many new things are now happening: new technologies, new competition, new business models, and new social norms.
I present various themes we’ve been studying in our ongoing research, including how the institutional environment shows in mobile phone apps, discourses around taximeter regulation, and strategizing in incumbent taxi dispatch companies.
I will also discuss the Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) paradigm, and its implications for the taxi industry. We will have time for open discussion about various themes.
Dr. Arto Lanamäki is a postdoctoral researcher in the Interact research unit, University of Oulu, Finland. He is involved with a research program investigating digital transformation in the taxi service industry. Lanamäki has a PhD from University of Bergen, Norway (2013), and MSc from University of Tampere, Finland (2006). University of Vaasa awarded him the title of docent in 2017. While he publishes mostly in the field of Information Systems, he is driven by a certain research eclecticism and a phenomenon-driven research ethos. He has published in journals such as the Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW), Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology (JASIST), Communications of the Association for Information Systems (CAIS), Scandinavian Journal of Information Systems (SJIS), Information Processing & Management (IPM), and AI & Society, in addition to numerous conference papers in venues such as the IFIP Working Group 8.2 (Information Systems and Organizations), International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS), European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS), Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS), and Scandinavian Conference on Information Systems (SCIS).
Lanamäki is currently on a 60-day STSM (short term scientific mission) at TalTech. The visit is hosted by Professor Kuldar Taveter. The STSM is funded by the COST Action network CA16121 "From Sharing to Caring: Examining Socio-Technical Aspects of the Collaborative Economy."
