Research interests and projects
Supramolecular chemistry research group is interested in study of chiral urea.-based, sugar-based and aromatic molecular containers. More specifically we are studying their synthesis, molecular and supramolecular structure and their interactions. Supramolecular chemistry unites approaches of analytical, organic and physical chemistry to study mater in a broader way. We are intereseted in templated synthesis of macrocycles (DOI Link):
Molecular containers are able to form host-guest complexes with other molecules and in a special case even inclusion complexes,where small molecule is fully encapsulated by the macrocycle. These complexes are held together by non-covalent interactions. We are mainly interested in macrocycles that belong to cucurbituril and calixarene families. These type of macrocycles have been applied in material science for example in molecular Velcro, hydrogels and –capsules as well as in biomedical applications for selective drug-delivery. The first enantiomerically pure members of cucurbituril family were prepared by our group.
Currently we explore the potential of new molecular containers in conjunction with porphyrins for sensing chiral pollutants and bioactive molecules, therefore eventiually they might be applide for monitoring bioactive wastes in enviroment and in Agricultural and Pharmaceutical industrues.
