TalTechDigital Vision Conference is a guide to the digital future
One of the important events of the TTÜ 100th anniversary year is the TalTechDigital Vision Conference, which will take place on September 20. The aim of the conference is to leverage the TalTechDigital program, and it will illustrate the way in which the society is renewed through innovative technologies.
TTÜ Rector Jaak Aaviksoo explained that TalTechDigital is one of the most ambitious initiatives in the history of the university.
"In the worldwide digitalisation Tallinn University of Technology has the desire and readiness to change ourselves first and then to show the way to others. The goal of TalTechDigital is to change teaching, learning, research and everyday life in the university. not just the academic community of the university, but the whole surrounding society should benefit from digital turnaround," he said.
The focus of the Vision Conference is also based on these goals. According to the Conference Project Manager Mati Lukas, TTÜ Head of the Open University, the conference is intended to demonstrate the ability of TTÜ to contribute to the field of digitalisation." The university knows where the world is going, we communicate with the experts in the field and we want to be an opinion former on issues related to digital society," Lukas explained.
About half thousand TTÜ staff and partners are expected to attend the conference. According to Mati Lukas, a conference program is currently under way, breathing in the same rhythm with modern science and economics, and is tempting, exciting and versatile.
Besides engaging content the format of the conference is also innovative, according to Lukas. "We will start with fundamental keynote presentations and we will move in a fast rhythm towards a more practical approach. TalTech Talk marks the famous short form and theatrics known from TED Talk, and the PechaKucha format (20 slides or illustrations, only 20 seconds to show each one) gives the audience a serious challenge. The day ends with a discussion involving the entire audience, both directly and through information technology. Everything to get the attention of the spectators from start to finish."
Topics on the subject are innovation in education (language technologies, digital learning, MOOCs, AI), digitalisation in industry (production, energy, medicine, greentech), the Internet of Things (big data, health) and e-state and society.
According to Mati Lukas, the first enthusiastic performers have already agreed to make a presentation: "We have great pleasure in hosting Dr. Keith Devlin, the founder of the H-STAR Institute of Stanford University, who is to talk about how to use math to solve the 21st century problems. In just one generation, the teaching and meaning of mathematics has changed tremendously. Simpler tasks are solved by the computer, and we need more and more professionals with good mathematical knowledge to help solve major problems of our everyday life with higher mathematics."
Said Hamdioui, professor at Delfth University of Technology, also agreed to participate. Lucas introduces the speaker as follows: "Professor Hamdioui explains the concept of computation-in-memory and analyses whether it is merely a vocabulary or a new promising technology for data-intensive tasks. Every new application requires more and more resources from computers, and traditional technology is not up to it anymore."
The conference will take place at TTÜ Assembly Hall, however, Lukas tells that it will have e new look for the event: "We would like the conference to be fresh in the content as well as in the form, and surprising to all our students, staff and alumni who have been familiar with TTÜ for years"
